In November 2021, China’s import data show a marked uptick across all major industries. In detail:

  • Steel or iron products – Exports of “steel and iron products” in November stood at 4.36 mln tons, down 3.11% on a monthly basis and down 0.91% on an annual basis. On the import side, however, there was a sharp rise to 1.42 million tons, up 25.66% m/m;

  • Unwrought copper and copper products – Exports of “Unwrought copper and copper products” in November showed an increase of 14.45% on a monthly basis while on an annual basis the increase stood at 26.72% (81.375 thousand tons). As for imports, the monthly figure shows an increase of 24.32% at 510.4 thousand tons;
  • Unwrought aluminium and aluminium products – Exports of “Unwrought aluminium and aluminium products” in November showed an increase of 6.2% on a monthly basis while on an annual basis the increase was 20.12% (509.32 thousand tons). As for imports, the monthly figure shows an increase of 33.96% to 397.92 thousand tons while the annual figure shows a frightening +110.57%. It should also be noted that Chinese aluminum production in November stood at 3.16 million tons, slightly down 0.44% on an annual basis. Although the decline is small, it is the first negative figure since February 2020;

  • Metalliferous ores and metal scrap – Exports in November of “Metal Minerals and Scrap Metal” products stood at $396.22m, a month-over-month decline of 14.31% while imports stood at $22.51bn, a monthly rise of 4.84% and 21% year-over-year;

  • Paper pulp – Imports in November on paper showed a month-on-month increase of 17.78% with the overall figure standing at 2.65 mln tons;
