Vale reported that production of copper concentrate at its Salobo mine in the state of Para, Brazil, is suspended due to a fire that struck a conveyor belt, causing no injuries or fatalities but only material damage. The company expects to resume production at the mine by the end of October.

Other activities, such as mining and maintenance, were continuing as normal. In 2020, Salobo produced 172,700 tonnes of copper, almost half the annual output of Rio de Janeiro-based companies.
